Call to Action:
Monitor St
What's Happening Here?
The NYC DOT plans to install a bike lane on Monitor St. There has been no outreach by the D.O.T in regards to how the residents or businesses feel about this plan. Installing a bike lane on Monitor Street poses a risk of collision when cyclists are funneled in the way of the business's active driveways. There are alternate streets that a bike lane can be created on that would allow cyclists to safely get to their destination. Please take the time to consider these alternatives which balances the need of the bike lanes with the safety of everyone in the community.
Why Doesn't This Work?
- Over 17 businesses have active driveways all along Monitor St between Greenpoint and Norman Avenue.
- Trucks and heavy vehicles will cause added risk for cyclists.
- During film production, permitted space is already taken up along the streets for truck parking between Norman and Greenpoint Ave.
- Film Shoot days have 100s of people crossing the streets along with trailers parked along the street between Norman and Greenpoint Ave.
- Local Business and residents were not properly informed.
